I Reads You Review: NARUTO Volume 66

NARUTO, VOL. 66

Creators: Masashi Kishimoto; Mari Morimoto (Translator), John Hunt (Lettering)
Publishing Information: VIZ Media (@VIZMedia); 192 pages, $9.99 (US), $12.99 (CAN), £6.99 U.K.
Ordering Numbers: ISBN: 978-1-4215-6948-2 (ISBN), paperback (July 2014)

Rated: “T” for “Teen”

Uzumaki Naruto is a young shinobi (ninja) with a knack for mischief.  Once, he was the biggest troublemaker at the Ninja Academy in the shinobi Village of Konohagakure.  However, Naruto was also two things:  special and an outcast.  When he was a baby, his parents (father Minato and mother Kushina) imprisoned a nine-tailed fox spirit (Kurama) inside his infant body.  Now, 16-years-old and incorrigible as ever, Naruto is still serious about his quest to become the world’s greatest ninja.

Guided by their secret ally, Uchiha Obito, Akatsuki villains Uchiha Madara and Kabuto declare war on the Five Great Nations of the ninja.  This begins the Fourth Great Ninja War, and the five great shinobi leaders, known as the Gokage, form the Allied Shinobi Forces to fight this war.  Obito and Madara's goal is to revive the monstrous tailed-beast, Ten Tails.

As Naruto, Vol. 66 (entitled The New Three – Chapters 628 to 637) begins, Obito and Madara have indeed revived Ten Tails.  While Madara guides Ten Tails, Obito faces his one-time teammate, Hatake Kakashi, who is also Naruto's teacher and mentor.

All is not lost for the shinobi forces.  The Four Lords Hokage arrive, including someone dear to Naruto.  Speaking of our favorite teen ninja, Naruto and Sakura Haruno are reunited with their prodigal teammate, Sasuke UchihaCell 7.  Will they be enough to stop Ten Tails?  Meanwhile, troublemaker Lord Orochimaru and his partners, Suigetsu and Karin, make their play.

It has been almost 11 months since I last read a volume of the Naruto manga.  Naruto is my favorite comic, and I put off keeping up with it, as I read other things.  I recently snagged two volumes, including Naruto Volume 66.

A year ago, in a review of Vol. 65 for the ComicBookBin website, I wrote that Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto was doing some of his best storytelling.  That is still true.  Naruto is on the precipice of making its next big leap, but first this, long war of the tailed-beast needs to wrap up.  Kishimoto is using this time in the narrative to not only make shocking reveals, but also to reunite many characters and to dig into the past of some.  As always, Kishimoto gives his readers a reason to keep reading, because Naruto Vol. 66 is as good as the promise made by Vol. 65, which sets a high standard for Vol. 67.

Review: JOJO'S BIZARRE ADVENTURE: Part 1 – Phantom Blood Volume 1

JOJO'S BIZARRE ADVENTURE: PART 1 - PHANTOM BLOOD, VOL. 1

VIZ MEDIA – @VIZMedia
CARTOONIST: Hirohiko Araki
TRANSLATION: Evan Galloway
LETTERS: Mark McMurray
ISBN: 978-1-4215-7879-8; hardcover (February 2015); Rated “T+” for “Older Teen”
260pp, B&W with some color, $19.99 U.S., $22.99 CAN, £12.99 U.K.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is a multi-genre, shonen manga created by Hirohiko Araki.  It first appeared in the Japanese manga anthology magazine, Weekly Shonen Jump, in 1986, but has been in Ultra Jump for the last decade.

VIZ Media is making the legendary manga available in English for the first time as a series of deluxe edition graphic novels with color pages and new cover art.  A multi-generational tale, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure centers on the heroic Joestar family and their never-ending battle against evil.  JoJo's Bizarre Adventure begins with the “Phantom Blood” arc.  It is the story of two brothers; one ambitious, but also cruel and evil, and the other is dignified and strives to be a just man.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Part 1 – Phantom Blood, Vol. 1 (Chapters 1 to 11) opens far in the past, as an ancient ritual reveals the power of a mysterious stone mask.  Centuries later, in Great Britain, a cliff side accident brings together two men, Lord Joestar and Dario Brando.  The former is a grateful gentleman; the other is a thief who, by chance, appears to be a kind and helpful man.

Then, the story leaps forward to 1881.  Lord Joestar adopts Dario's son, Dio Brando, and brings the lad into his home.  However, Dio immediately begins to plot against his new brother, Jonathan Joestar, only son of Lord Joestar.  Although Jonathan makes an effort to bond with his adopted brother, he finds that Dio only causes him grief and pain.  Secretly, Dio plans to usurp Jonathan as heir to the Joestar family.  The return of the ancient stone mask will change both fates and plans.

I had heard of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga, which was first published in 1986 in Weekly Shonen Jump, but I cannot remember when.  VIZ Media recently sent me a copy of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Part 1 – Phantom Blood Volume 1 for review, which surprised me because I had assumed that this was going to be a digital release.

As I am unfamiliar with this series, I do not know how it evolves over time as story.  I imagine the visual and graphical style of the art also changes.  Phantom Blood, Vol. 1 is certainly bizarre in terms of the overall graphical storytelling and the visual presentation.  Creator Hirohiko Araki has an awkward, chunky approach to drawing male characters.  Jonathan and Dio grow into behemoths who smash and crash into each other, and into anyone else who wants to fight them.  There is a strangely beautiful quality to this odd, ungainly cartooning of the human figure and head and face.  I found myself eager to see how characters would look from one panel to the next.

The story is a blast to read.  I read it in big chunks, stopping only when I had to do something else.  Honestly, I hated to come to the end this volume.  JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is outlandish, and the fights are wild affairs that seem like comic book parodies of the fights in martial arts movies.  There is also a cliffhanger quality to each chapter that demands that readers come back to see more of this kooky manga that blends horror and fantasy adventure.  In fact, I already want more.  Fans of unusual shonen manga will want to try the Shonen Jump Advanced series, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Part 1 – Phantom Blood.

Review: PUNKS: The Comics #4

PUNKS: THE COMIC #4
IMAGE COMICS – @ImageComics

CREATORS: Joshua Hale Fialkov and Kody Chamberlain – @JoshFialkov @KodyChamberlain
COVER: Kody Chamberlain
VARIANT COVER: Joe Infurnari
28pp, Color, $3.99 U.S. (January 2015)

Rated T+ / Teen Plus

Yeah, I was late getting to the comic shop, so I am late with a review of the fourth issue of Punks: The Comics.  By the time I was able to get to the shop, the only copy left sported a variant cover by Joe Infurnari.  I really wanted the main cover, which featured a send-up of Todd McFarlane's “classic” cover for Spider-Man (August 1990).

Punks: The Comic is the revival of writer Joshua Hale Fialkov and artist Kody Chamberlain's 2007 small press comic book, Punks.  Chamberlain produces Punks' “original art” with a cut-and-past, do-it-yourself technique and style.  Punks focuses on a quartet of cut-ups:  Dog (a bulldog head on a human figure), Skull (human skull on figure), Fist (a male fist on figure), and Abe Lincoln (images of President Abraham Lincoln's head on various figures).  It's like paper dolls and puppet theater turned inside out and inside again.

As Punks: The Comic #4 opens, Abe, Skull, Fist, and Dog return from their latest (mis)adventure.  Well, dear readers, that means the end of the latest issue of Punks, but wait...  Didn't this issue just begin?  See the stars try to end their show.  And in the “classic” Punks, Dog turns into an alien butt hole surfer, or something like that.

[Punks: The Comic #4 includes some story pages from the original Punks comix.]

Early in my reading of Punks: The Comic #4, I found something to steal for my own writing.  As they say, talent borrows; genius steals.  Who knew that a story about getting to the end of the story could be so much fun.  I think I can build at least a three-issue miniseries out of that.

In the reprint story, Punks proves that it was ahead its time, literally.  I think Punks: The Comics may be trying to match its own surreal and cockamamie beginnings.  Punks is still just scratching at the black ice surface of its potential.  I hope “mainstream” North American comics has a place for this especially funny comic book.

Retailers Place Record-Breaking Order For 2015 Free Comic Book Day Comics

(BALTIMORE, MD) — Comic book specialty retailers worldwide expect significant attendance at this year’s Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) and have pushed their ordering to record breaking levels with more than 5.6 million free comic books to be available the day of the event, Saturday, May 2, 2015. This year’s order for FCBD titles is a 21% increase over 2014’s previous comic order.

The number of participating stores has also increased with 2,340 specialty shops participating in Free Comic Book Day across the US, Canada and internationally, up 8% over last year

“FCBD is the day after the opening of the Marvel’s Avenger's Age of Ultron film, and thousands of comic book shops across North America and around the world will look to share the magic of comic books with their communities,” said FCBD spokesperson Deborah Moreland. “Free Comic Book Day is a wonderful time of year for independently owned and operated comic shops as FCBD gives them an extra push in business as they connect with new customers and get a positive charge forward for the summer months and rest of 2015.

Review: NURA: Rise of the Yokai Clan: Volume 25

NURA: RISE OF THE YOKAI CLAN, VOL. 25
VIZ MEDIA – @VIZMedia

CARTOONIST: Hiroshi Shiibashi
TRANSLATION: John Werry
LETTERS: Annaliese Christman
EDITORS: Megan Bates, Joel Enos
ISBN: 978-1-4215-6480-7; paperback (February 2015); Rated “T” for “Teen”
208pp, B&W, $9.99 U.S., $12.99 CAN, £6.99 U.K.

Hiroshi Shiibashi is a manga creator known for his debut series, Nurarihyon no Mago (Nurarihyon Grandson).  The series debuted in the Japanese manga anthology magazine, Weekly Shonen Jump, in March 2008.  VIZ Media published an English version of Nurarihyon no Mago as a series of 25 graphic novels under the title Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan.  VIZ recently published the final graphic novel in the series, Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan Volume 25.

Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan takes place in a world where the day belongs to humans and the night belongs to yokai, the supernatural creatures of Japanese folklore.  Middle school student, Rikuo Nura, is three-fourths human and one-quarter yokai.  His paternal grandfather is Nurarihyon, the Overlord and Supreme Commander of the Tokyo-based, yokai consortium, the Nura Clan.  He wants Rikuo to become the next leader of the Nura Clan – the Lord of a Hundred Demons.  When Rikuo’s yokai blood awakens, he becomes the clan’s future leader (“the Third”) and current “Underboss.”

As Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan, Vol. 25 (entitled He Who Equips True Fear – Chapters 209 to 210) opens, Rikuo and Yuki-onna race to Aoi Spiral Castle.  There, the ayakashi (yokai) monsters, Abe No Seimei and Hagoromo-Gitsune meet.  Surprise: Seimei is Hagoromo-Gitsune's son, and now they prepare for battle – the son for a world of superior yokai and the mother for a world for both yokai and humans.  Now, Rikuo, who is connected to both of them, joins the battle for a three-way showdown that will decide everything.

[This volume also includes five bonus stories:  “Inherited Bonds,” “The Third Heir Gone Wild?!” “Dawn Pawnbroker,” “In the Village of Half-Yokai,” and “Extra Bonus.”]

The Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan manga reminds me of Naruto, but it won't last as long as that manga starring the world's favorite boy-ninja.  Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan Volume 25 is the final volume of the series.  This last graphic novel is for longtime readers of the series.  It is our happy ending, but those who become new readers by going back to the beginning will discover something wonderful and will eventually get to enjoy Vol. 25's happy ending.

I can say that I am surprised at how things have come to pass in the story.  Some villains and monsters turn out not to be the adversaries that they seemed initially.  Along the way, Hiroshi Shiibashi did not let things stay the same, and the series thrived for it.  At the end of the book is a two-page goodbye and thank-you to fans in which Shiibashi says that we will see some of these characters again.  That's a good thing.  Also, “Bonus Story 4: In the Village of Half-Yokai” features some of the most beautiful comic book art that I have seen in awhile.

So in my final estimation:  readers looking for imaginative shonen manga will want to see the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons in the Shonen Jump title, Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan.

I Reads You Review: NAMELESS #1

“Shit Rains Down”

Nameless is a new horror and science fiction comic book from writer Grant Morrison and artist Chris Burnham.  Published by Image Comics, Nameless is colored by Nathan Fairbairn and lettered by Simon Bowland.

Nameless #1 (“Shit Rains Down) opens with shocking violence.  An astronomer kills his wife and two children before he hangs himself with barbed wire.  A second family gets wiped out; maybe the husband did it – the husband who yells “Zirom Trian Ipam Ipamis,” as the police carry him away.

Meanwhile, an occult hustler who has named himself, “Nameless,” fights the Veiled Lady for the “Dream Key.”  But his biggest task may be the job that is forced upon him – to save the Earth from a malevolent asteroid named “Xibalba.”

The first half of Nameless #1 is a mixture of familiar Grant Morrison tropes – conspiracies and occultism – with some leftovers from The Invisibles and H.P. Lovecraft.  Morrison throws that into a word processing blender and presses the puree button when he really should have used the pulse setting.  The first time I read the first half of Nameless, I did not understand what was happening in the story.  I thought, “How will I review this mess.  I have no idea what's going on.”  I was still confused after reading the first half a second time.

After a third and fourth reading, however, I found the first half of Nameless to be strangely beautiful.  I thought (or imagined) that I was seeing new things in the story and art that I had not seen before.  The Frank Quitely-like art by Chris Burnham with Nathan Fairbairn's gorgeous coloring makes for some eye-catching graphics.  Together, story and art offer graphical storytelling that presents dreams and visions as if they were the gosh-darn-purtiest vacation spot in all of comic book land.

The rest of Nameless #1 is conventional, for the most part, but still intriguing.  I am quite determined to read the second issue of Nameless, sellouts be damned.

I Reads You Review: CONAN RED SONJA #1

CONAN RED SONJA #1 (OF 4)
DARK HORSE COMICS/DYNAMITE ENTERTAINMENT – @DarkHorseComics and @dynamitecomics

WRITER: Gail Simone and Jim Zub
ARTIST: Dan Panosian
COLORS: Dave Stewart
LETTERS: Richard Starkings & Comicraft
COVER: Dan Panosian
28pp, Color, $3.99 U.S. (January 2015)

Part 1 of 4: The Age of Innocence

Conan the Cimmerian (also Conan the Barbarian) was born in the pulp fiction of Robert E. Howard, first appearing in magazine, Weird Tales (1932).  Marvel Comics brought Conan to comic books in 1970, with the long running series, Conan the Barbarian.  In Conan the Barbarian #23 (cover dated February 1973), writer Roy Thomas and artist Barry Windsor-Smith created a high fantasy sword and sorcery heroine.  She was named Red Sonja and was loosely based on “Red Sonya of Rogatino,” a female character that appeared in the 1934 short story, “The Shadow of the Vulture,” written by Robert E. Howard.

Conan and Red Sonja are reunited in comic books again in Dark Horse Comics' new four-issue miniseries, Conan Red Sonja.  This series is written by Gail Simone and Jim Zub, drawn by Dan Panosian, colored by Dave Stewart, and lettered by Richard Starkings & Comicraft.

Conan Red Sonja #1 (“The Age of Innocence”) opens when Manus Drath arrives on the Barachan Isles, off the coast of Zingara.  He has brought with him a container of mysterious seeds for an unwary farmer to plant.  Meanwhile, in the city of Enshophur, in the country of Koth, Conan and Red Sonja find themselves after the same prize.  Their quest will take each into royal chambers, where they will learn that not everything is what it is supposed to be.

I have not read very many comic books written by Gail Simone, but what I have read, I have enjoyed.  I only discovered the work of writer Jim Zub within the last two years and have found great pleasure in his recently launched creator-owned series, Wayward (Image Comics).  Thus, I am not surprised that the Simone-Zub union would create such a hugely enjoyable series as Conan Red Sonja.

Conan Red Sonja captures the spirit of a Conan adventure as well as any Conan comic book ever has.  It is brawny and pulpy and has a humorous streak that cuts across most of the first issue.  Red Sonja's sly wit is the perfect foil for Conan's murderous sense of humor.  What makes their union so special is the reality that these two cannot trust each other long enough for them to take on a long campaign together.  It will be interesting to see how this duo comes together at just the right time to take on the darkness that is ahead of them because of their actions in this first issue.

Dan Panosian's art tells a lean and mean story, and Panosian captures how quickly our barbarian heroes can change fate with the sharp edge of their swords.  Panosian sets the mood; this first issue is just the beginning – the introduction and set-up.  The real pain is yet to come, and the art portends in all the right places while offering up the Hyborian version of a heist story.

Conan Red Sonja #1 makes me want to keep reading.  I hope that the rest of this series lives up to my high expectations.

Review: HAPPY MARRIAGE?! Volume 10

HAPPY MARRIAGE?!, VOL. 10
VIZ MEDIA – @VIZMedia

CARTOONIST: Maki Enjoji
TRANSLATION: Tetsuichiro Miyaki
EDITOR/ENGLISH ADAPTATION: Nancy Thislethwaite
LETTERS: Inori Fukuda Trant
ISBN: 978-1-4215-5943-8; paperback (January 2015); Rated “M” for “Mature”
192pp, B&W, $9.99 U.S., $12.99 CAN, £6.99 UK

Happy Marriage?! is the longest manga series (to date) produced by mangaka Maki Enjoji.  It debuted in the Japanese josei manga magazine, Petit Comic.  VIZ Media published an English-language version of the series for North America.

Happy Marriage?! focuses on Chiwa Takanashi.  She is a young woman who never had any girlish fantasies about courtship and marriage, but she found herself in an unlikely scenario.  The 22-year-old married a total stranger in order to get her father out of debt!  Chiwa's husband, 28-year-old Hokuto Mamiya, was the President and CEO of Mamiya Commerce.  Their marriage, for a time, was a secret, with only Hokuto’s personal assistant, Taeko Soma, knowing of the union’s true nature.  Two years later, Chiwa and Hokuto are trying to be a real married couple.

As Happy Marriage?!, Vol. 10 (Chapters 37 to 39 to Final Chapter) opens, Chiwa recovers from the would she received when she tried to protect Hokuto from a savage knife attack.  Even after that, she still cannot reveal to Hokuto the letter she received from her his now-deceased father, Seiji Mamiya, that revealed a secret.

Her reticence will not stop the turmoil within the Mamiya family.  Hokuto will learn a shocking truth about his mother, Yoko Miura, and about himself.  The revelations could ruin Chiwa and Hokuto's marriage.

I am not happy about saying goodbye to the Happy Marriage?! manga.  However, I must accept that Happy Marriage?! Volume 10 is the final volume of this series that I have come to really enjoy reading.

I don't want to spoil anything, but I will admit that there are some some explosive revelations and that there are some character revelations that are worse than some readers my have expected.  I can say that Happy Marriage?! has a happy ending.  It has a celebratory last chapter that will remind readers why this typical shojo soap opera romance manages to be something different and also something especially lovable.

Readers looking for shojo/josei romantic drama will be happy with the Shojo Beat title, Happy Marriage?!

Book Review: CANE AND ABE

CANE AND ABE
HARPERCOLLINS – @HarperCollins @James_Grippando

AUTHOR: James Grippando
ISBN: 978-0-06-229539-2; hardcover (January 20, 2015)
368pp, B&W, $26.99 U.S.

Cane and Abe is a 2015 crime novel and suspense thriller from James Grippando, a New York Times bestselling author of legal thrillers.  My previous experiences with Grippando are the two most recent novels in his Jack Swyteck series.  In Cane and Abe, a South Florida prosecutor becomes the prime suspect in the disappearance of his wife, which may be connected to a serial killer who is dumping bodies in cane fields throughout South Florida.

Abraham “Abe” Beckham is the senior trial counsel at the Office of the State Attorney for Miami-Dade County.  Abe may a star prosecutor, but he has suffered some heartache.  He lost the love of his life, his beautiful wife, Samantha Vine, to cancer.  Some say he remarried to quickly, when Abe wed Angelina, who had been his girlfriend before he married Samantha.

Abe's personal soap opera takes a backseat when a woman's body is discovered, dumped in the Everglades, and Abe is called upon to monitor the investigation.  The FBI is tracking a serial killer in South Florida, who is called “Cutter,” and this body may belong to his latest victim.  Cutter's brutal methods of murder recall Florida's dark past, when men, who were practically turned into slaves by large sugar companies, cut sugarcane by hand with a machete in the blazing sun.

Then, things go horribly wrong.  Angelina disappears, and for some reason, FBI Agent Victoria Santos makes Abe the top suspect in both his wife's disappearance and in the murder of the woman just found in the Everglades.  Suspicion surrounds Abe, mainly because everyone seems to suspect him of doing something wrong.  And Cutter may watching him.

I have to admit that Cane and Abe is indeed the “spellbinding” novel that HarperCollins, the book's publisher, calls it.  HarperCollins gave me a galley copy of Cane and Abe for review, and I'm glad they did.  I found this book hard to stop reading once I started.  It is a summer potboiler for chilly winter nights, and it casts a spell that binds you to its riveting prose.

However, Cane and Abe is about 40 to 50 pages too long.  That is what keeps it from being the perfect suspense and mystery thriller.  There is a point where the novel should end.  Past that point, Cane and Abe alternates between being engaging and being annoying.  Authors should also realize that red herrings can sometimes become stinky fish that can ruin a story, when there are too many of them.  Luckily, James Grippando fills this novel with characters that do crazy things, the kind of crazy things which actually make sense from the standpoint of motivation.

What keeps Cane and Abe from being derailed by being a bit too long (see, size does matter) is that the reader will try to find out what each character's part in this conspiracy is.  What is his or her's real motivation?  That will keep you thinking about the book on those occasions when you have to stop reading it for a bit.

Review: INCREDIBLE CHANGE-BOTS Two Point Something Something

INCREDIBLE CHANGE-BOTS TWO POINT SOMETHING SOMETHING
TOP SHELF PRODUCTIONS – @topshelfcomix

CARTOONIST: Jeffrey Brown
ISBN:  978-1-60309-348-4; paperback (November 2014)
224pp, Color and B&W, $19.95 U.S.

Jeffrey Brown is one of my favorite cartoonists.  As a reviewer, I have been fortunate to receive numerous books authored by Brown from his frequent publisher, Top Shelf Productions.  One of my favorite books by Jeffrey Brown is the recent Incredible Change-Bots Two Point Something Something, of which Top Shelf provided me a copy.

First, about Jeffrey Brown:  I imagine that many comics readers probably know Brown from his Star Wars young readers book series, Darth Vader and Son and Jedi Academy.  Brown has also produced a number of beautifully executed autobiographical comics that have been collected under such titles as Clumsy, Little Things, and Undeleted Scenes, to name a few.

The best description that I can give of Jeffrey Brown is “joyous.”  I don't know if he suffers for his art, but when I read his comics, I think of someone joyfully going about his art and craft.  Brown's Incredible Change-Bots comics personify that sense of joy.  The Incredible Change-Bots are Brown's nostalgic tribute and love letter to and parody of the Transformers.

Thus, the Incredible Change-Bots story is similar to that of the Transformers.  It begins on the planet, Electronocybercircuitron, where two factions of giant transforming, shape-shifting, changing robots – the Incredible Change-Bots – wage war.  The ostensible protagonists are the Awesomebots, and the bad bots are the self-interested, Fantasticons.  The two groups go to war over a disputed election, and promptly destroy Electronocybercircuitron.

Top Shelf Productions published two paperback collections, Incredible Change-Bots (2007) and Incredible Change-Bots Two (2011), that collected Brown's Incredible Change-Bots comics.  However, over the past decade, Brown has produced a lot of Incredible Change-Bot miscellany, including newsletter art, exclusive mini-comics, and custom original art for the Incredible Change-Bots Fan Club.

That fan club material and more are collected in the 5” x 6.5,” color, trade paperback, Incredible Change-Bots Two Point Something Something.  This book includes the first appearance of a Change-Bot (in Sulk Sketchbook #10).  There are also art show and commission drawings and Incredible Change-Bot art and comics produced for magazines and special edition comics books (like those produced for “Free Comic Book Day”).

I must hasten to add that Incredible Change-Bots Two Point Something Something is not a collection of throw-away stuff and odds-and-ends.  These are fully functional short stories and vignettes, and I had a blast reading this.  I have read Incredible Change-Bot comics before, but these short pieces are the best of this series/franchise, thus far.  The material in this collection is a mixture of black and white comics and full-color comics, and the color comics are gorgeous; an Eisner Award nomination for the coloring would be deserved.

The production, binding, and paper quality on Incredible Change-Bots Two Point Something Something is good enough to fool you into believing that this is one of those high-end archival projects.  I heartily recommend this book to Transformers fans, admirers of Jeffrey Brown's work, and readers looking for truly funny humor comics.
